So why isnt the iPad getting iPhone OS 4 in the Summer?

At the iPhone OS 4 preview yesterday, Apple made some clear distinctions between the iPad and iPhone. The new OS 4 will be available this summer for iPhone and iPod touch, but in the fall for the iPad. So if you’ve bought an iPad and are now cursing the wait for all the new features, here's a bit of consolation. There are several features of iPhone OS 4 that are already on the iPad. That’s because the iPad runs iPhone OS 3.2, while the iPhone and iPod Touch are on version 3.1.3. iPhone OS 4 features that are already on the iPad: Support for Bluetooth keyboards iBooks app and support for Apple’s iBookstore The ability to create playlists in iTunes, spell check Places support in the Photos app Home screen wallpaper iPad users are going to have to wait to get the juicy new multitasking features amongst others, but the gap in delivery may suggest that the version that iPad users get in the fall may be a step ahead of what iPhone users get in the summer. Hopefully some consolation.
