London Games Conference votes Apple biggest influence to gaming

Anyone attend the London Games Conference? Big Event held in London, lots of really great guys talking about the games their developing and a few new bits of hardware are shown off. During the conference, 1000 video game industry professionals were given a survey to fill out about gaming and it's influence over the medium. Guess who came out on top?

Yes, that's right the final outcome for the survey was 17% for the iPhone when regarding the most influential platform, pushing other classic gen consoles in the dust like Wii (7%), PS1 (3%) or Steam (2%). Of course, my bias is that I grew up with a lot of the above platforms, that and I do not own a smartphone.

When discussing the most influential person to gaming, Apple won again, with the recently deceased Steve Jobs coming out on top with 26%. Jobs was up against Valve pioneer Gabe Newell (who got 16%), Nintendo Mastermind Shigeru Miyamoto (7%) Gaming God Tim Berners Lee (4%) and Facebook Demi-God Zuckerberg (3%). How did people like Will Wright and Nolan Bushell not get a mention on this list? I guess you gotta go with what you got and what London got was a lot of people who want to be developing for Apple's little bit of magic.

speechless....speechless, iphone!?! a rather new system that harbors classics like...angry birds? this seem far to much of a tribute to steve jobs then an actual conference, the iphone hasnt even had enough time to seal its place in history which in my heart it doesnt have one, how about the nintendo for saving console gaming from ending and perhaps gaming in general, the biased nature of this whole event is awful, steve jobs beating out anyone is disturbing, this conference has lost all my respect, its not that i preach anyone else up to the position of most influential person in gaming, but almost anyone would have fit the spot more then steve jobs, i love his work, hes been historical for a long time but this is just sad, we should be thanking people like gabe newell for steam and other digital distributors for breaking away from the mundane nature of the walmarts and gamestops filling our gaming needs, im not denying the rise of app-esque games caused by the likes of the iphone, but to say that is more influential then the rest of game history is ignorant and wrong *breathes in*

iphone is the new wii thats all. just as there was a sudden influx of "pc literate" people with facebook who now because of facebook understand the internet. now theres ex wii loving facebook using iphone owners who know all the need to know about games because of their box of short lived novelty programs, the iphone.
I'll bet its something like that anyway.

I mean what Ive seen the most interesting games are games that are already on consoles but on the iphone you have shitty controls.

who went to this conference? 16 yrs old "programmers" for $0.99 games?

Jobs over Miyamoto? seriously? A joke! jobs didn't have a childhood, didn't like games either ..the man was a Misanthropist.. He used Apple, and Apple used him to reign on the board.
Apple influencing gaming? how? shinny objects are best for gaming because HE said so??? more like influencing the Doomsday of good gaming..

Apple and Steve Jobs do not deserve this kind of praise. Does Apple publish any games or have a game development studio? Has apple produced a successful dedicated gaming platform? Has Apple done anything other than produce the most accurate touch screen technology to date?

The iPhone is an amazing piece of technology that finally brought a widely popular smart phone to an industry choked almost to death by carrier control and feature locking. The iPhone is a bit more popular than Nintendo's portables for casual gaming due to the ubiquitous $1 casual titles in the App Store. However, the iPhone is a phone and aside from casual titles it is a pretty crappy gaming device.

If he influenced gaming, then im santa's little helper!! Think it just goes to show the muppets that are in these positions, are just so out of touch, and haven't got a clue what they're doing. Apple suck ups.

These dumb shits obviously know nothing about the gaming industry and were probably just handed some chart with all the games industry statistics on it, because iPhone is the fastest growing area of gaming by some margin, and yes before you all start whinging smartphone gaming is still gaming, but it's really not that influential but it is profitable, and that's probably all these people can see.
