While some brands are trying to storm the tablet market with mini-sized devices, Toshiba is going all out to offer a full-sized tab with up-to-the-minute technology and a tasty menu of features. The not-yet-named Toshiba tab will have a 10.1” glass-covered LED-backlit screen with multi-touch and accelerometer screen reorientation, plus impressive 1280 x 800 resolution. On the inside, the Toshiba has a speedy NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor capable of 1080p video decoding, easy Adobe Flash support, and full resolution video output with an integrated HDMI port. Also on board are front and rear facing cameras, stereo speakers, GPS, and a digital compass, along with 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Especially welcome is the removable battery, something missing from iPad and other tabs currently on the market. Weighing in at 1.7 pounds, the tablet is one of the heaviest on the market, which could be a strike against it, but given the screen size and options included this should be an appealing package for business users. The Toshiba tab should be compatible with Android apps, but Toshiba is planning its own marketplace, complete with e-books.

Prices have not been revealed yet, but are expected to be in line with those of the iPad for comparable products. While this tablet isn’t likely to lure the casual user who’s looking for a fun, easy-to-use, tab away from the iPad, it does sound like a product worth considering for the buyer who wants an Android powered tablet that’s loaded with the latest features.
