iPad News: The iPad Advantage? 35,000 Apps

The Samsung Galaxy Tab may have features the iPad lacks, like cameras for videoconferencing, but there’s one area where no Android-based device can compete—the number of apps. The total of dedicated apps for the iPad currently stands at 35,000—up 5,000 from a month ago. That means more than 150 new apps are being added to iTunes every day. Steve Jobs couldn’t resist rubbing in this fact during a conference call today, saying “iPad now has over 35,000 Apps on the App store. This new crop of tablets will have near zero.” Jobs added, “Most of the video on the web is available in HTML 5. Having the iTunes media store and over 35,000 Apps on the App Store for iPad dwarfs anything else, and we think we have a very good product here that’s going to be hard to match. And we’re not done.” Obviously not. How long will it take for the Android-based tabs to have a similar selection of available applications? And how long are buyers willing to wait for them to catch up?
