iPad News: Suppliers Ramp Up for iPad 2 Launch in 2011

While we still don’t know exactly what new features will be incorporated into the iPad 2, it’s pretty certain that it will launch in early 2011. According to Digitimes in Taiwan, Apple has already lined up three suppliers of components for the iPad 2— Ibiden, Tripod Technology and TTM Technologies—with four more being added in February. The three initial suppliers are set to begin shipping any-layer High Density Interconnect boards in December. What can we expect from the next gen iPad? Dual cameras, FaceTime, more RAM and a mini-USB port are the most-rumored new features. Since Apple already shot ad spots for the iPad last month using original models as stand-ins, that seems to indicate the iPad 2 will be the same size, and carbon fiber housing rather than solid aluminum could make the device lighter. Apple has already filed for a patent on an outer shell for electronic devices made from carbon fiber-reinforced polymer.
