The Vision Awards were founded in 1972 to give recognition to what they call “pioneering visionaries” in such fields as medical research, technology, television and films. Apple CEO Steve Jobs will be honored with the group’s Lifetime Achievement in Technology award on September 23 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Since the group’s mission is to fight blindness, the award is likely for the accessibility features of Mac OS and the iPad’s iOS, which includes an option to read onscreen text out loud or describe items on the screen. It’s not known whether Jobs will attend the ceremony.
