Owners of iPads who’ve been hoping for a version of Adobe Flash are doomed to be disappointed, since Steve Jobs loathes it and it’s not especially compatible with Apple products anyway. That’s why so many of them got their hopes up when the Skyfire web browser was released in November. Skyfire translates flash video into Apple-friendly HTML5, playable on iOS devices. Alas, the first version of Skyfire was tailored for the iPhone, but the developer promised an iPad version in the future via Twitter. Now iPad users should be getting Skyfire soon, as the developer has submitted the app to Apple and hopes for a speedy approval. A spokesman for Skyfire has stated the iPad app should be arriving “hopefully before Christmas.” The app is expected to sell for $4.99 and packs some features not included on the iPhone version, like Facebook and Twitter QuickView, which gives users one-touch access to their social networking sites. Other Facebook goodies include the FireplaceTM Feed Reader which gives a filtered list of your Facebook feed and a Facebook “Like” button that lets users recommend or share any page on the Internet with friends. Also, the Popular Content button lets you see what content on any site is most popular with your Facebook friends.

But let’s get real—a lot of Skyfire buyers aren’t getting it for social networking. They’re viewing porn. We know Steve Jobs has censored content from sites as relatively tame as Playboy and Esquire, so he wouldn’t approve of what’s really going down on the screens of some of his products. But what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him, right? Unless he’s installed spying devices in all of our Apple gadgets, but I don’t really want to go there. Anyway, this press video for iPad’s version of Skyfire illustrates what we can expect, hopefully by the end of the year.
