iPad News: Security breach may give hackers your personal information

What is the issue When you visit a website using Safari, a PDF file containing a hidden font that hides the program can be loaded to your device. The bug being hidden in that font can cause a technical condition known as 'stack overflow' allowing the code to gain control of your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch when you display the PDF file. This poses a serious risk to information you have stored on your device. There is no action required on your part other than opening the PDF. Once you do this the program can monitor your actions, add or delete files as well as some other nasty things that you don't want happening.

How to keep your data safe There currently isn't a fix for this bug so here is what you can do in the meantime. Try to avoid opening PDF files from sites that are untrusted as well as not going to direct PDF links. Another option is to jailbreak your device and add a program that requires you to provide authorization before your browser opens a PDF file. This won't prevent the bug from being installed but at the very least you will have the option to decline opening certain PDF files that you are unsure about. If you search Cydia for 'PDF load warnings' you can locate some of these.
