iPad News: Samsung Galaxy Heads Down Under

Samsung has announced that its 7” iPad rival, the Galaxy Tablet, will be available in Australia through all major mobile carriers. While there’s no news of how much the device will sell for with a service contract, customers can buy the Galaxy with 16GB for $999. Many Aussie newspapers and magazine will be debuting apps for the Galaxy, and Borders’ eBook app will also be available. Will this $999 price point hold for US distribution? Although the Galaxy does offer some features the original iPad lacks, the higher price may scare off potential buyers who are hoping to pay less for the competing tablets coming on the market in the next few months.
