iPad News: IPad/Laptop Hybrid Coming?

Everyone loves the iPad’s portability and touchscreen, but sometimes you really could use a keyboard. That’s why some potential buyers are torn between buying an iPad or the latest MacBook Air. Apple is looking ahead to making writing on the iPad easier with this just-patented design. Check out this illustration for a new tablet that converts into a laptop by sliding out a QWERTY keyboard. There’s no news yet whether this feature will be incorporated into the next gen iPad due in 2011 or a later model. Would the keyboard be included with all iPads or just certain models? Most likely, this would be a separate model with more weight and a higher price. Not every iPad user would welcome this option, but it could make the device more versatile and easy to use for those who have to do a lot of typing. Since Acer is set to debut a Windows tablet with support for a QWERTY keyboard in February 2011, Apple’s iPad/laptop hybrid could cut into their sales. With the iPad already having a drastic effect on the market for netbooks, this device is sure to convince ever more buyers to switch over.
