iPad News: iPad Sales over 1 million sold already

iBookstore, developed specifically for the new iPad, has also been an enormous success. To date, over 1.5 million sales have been made to iPad customers in this first month of sales. These are heady figures, and go a long way to explain supply problems that have beset Apple since the iPad launch. Apple CEO Steve Jobs doesn’t seem flustered: “Demand continues to exceed supply and we're working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers”. Of course, where there is shortage, there is enterprise. iPads are already appearing on auction sites at higher than recommended retail prices. This morning, prices on Ebay have been as high as $1000, significant more than the official $629 price tag. It seems US customers refuse to wait even a couple of weeks to buy their device brand new. Many Apple stores in New York have already sold out of all their iPad 3G’s released on Friday, and Apple’s online store is quoting a waiting time of between 5 and 7 days for delivery. This spectacular performance has left some analysts baffled. There were many reservations before the launch of the iPad Wi-Fi as Apple announced its refusal to support Flash, lack of multitasking and absence of a built in camera. However, Apple are consistent in the high quality of their products, of reading markets before they emerge, and of pinpointing the exact customer base for the product. Even with the iPad this is no different. The proof is in the bottom line. iPad sales are not included in Apple’s most recent quarterly results, but it is estimated that the sale of iPads will add $654 million to their revenue. I can’t begin to imagine what that kind of money looks like!
