iPad News: iPad Japanese Style. How's it doing in the land of the Rising Sun?

One of the few stores boasting an extra supply of iPads in Tokyo was the Softbank store on Omotesando. Because they had some unreserved stock, that’s where people decided to camp out. It’s amazing how quickly word gets round about such things! In typical mysterious Japanese style, the store was shrouded in blue plastic all night whilst inside the store was transformed into an iPad paradise. As the Softbank Store opened its doors, a flurry of media attention flooded the store as if a Hollywood ‘A’ Lister had arrived. Such a strange reaction to such a small device. Elsewhere in Tokyo, stores were gearing up to catch the accessories trade. Bic Camera stores all over the city had already erected iPad accessories stands, and the proud new owners were soon flocking there to buy their babies a new present. A curious thing about the Japanese iPad release was that iPad apps were available to buy from iTunes before the release date. I wonder how many people actually parted with their hard-earned Yen before actually owning an iPad? Strange. Like it or not, Japan is the land of technology. They must be kicking themselves that they didn’t come up with an iPad equivalent first. One thing you can be sure of: they won’t be far behind in making something similar, and probably cheaper and more functional as well. Apple watch out!
