iPad News: iPad is a Runaway Success

Just six months after making its debut, the iPad is selling at a rate of about 4.5 million units per quarter, easily beating the one million units sold by the iPhone in its first year and the 350,000 first year sales of the DVD player. That impressive figure makes iPad the most quickly adopted non-phone electronic product ever, according to a study by Bernstein Research. The firm’s retail analyst Colin McGranahan pointed out, “The iPad did not seem destined to be a runaway product success straight out of the box. By any account, the iPad is a runaway success of unprecedented proportion.” Bernstein predicts the iPad will vault past gaming hardware and cell phones to become the 4th biggest consumer electronics category, behind TVs, smart phones and notebook PCs. Who could have predicted this before the iPad came out?
