iPad News: Delta Offers Fliers Use of iPads at JFK

If you’re flying over this holiday week, you’re probably already dreading the experience—crowded airports, lousy weather, long layovers and being strip searched by those charming folks from the TSA. It’s enough to drive a flier to drink, and thanks to Delta Air Lines, you can order a couple of stiff ones from an iPad while relaxing at one of their gates at JFK. Delta and airport restaurant operator OTG Management have opened seating areas at three terminals. Fliers have a choice of French restaurant Croque Madame at Gates 21 and 22 in Terminal 2 or casual Italian restaurant Bar Brace at Gate 15 in Terminal 3. When seated, customers will have access to one of 200 iPads that can be used for ordering food and drinks. The tablets are connected to a wireless Internet connection and can be used for entertainment as well as food service. There is no time limit, probably because Delta figures you have to quit fooling around and get on your plane at some point. I hope Delta will be installing these at the Atlanta airport next, since I always seem to get stuck there for hours whenever I try to travel down South.
