iPad News: Big Tablet Sales Projected for 2010, Beyond

A forecast of tablet sales by technology research company Gartner suggests that the iPad is leading the way in adoption of the tablet format. The company predicts tablet sales will reach nearly 20 million by the end of 2010, with iPad selling at least 10 million. The first figure seems rather optimistic, considering most of the iPad’s competitors don’t even have their devices available for sale yet, and many won’t debut until 2011. With the expansion of iPad sales into major retail outlets in time for holiday shopping, that second figure could be a bit too conservative. Gartner predicts explosive growth for the tablet format, expecting sales of 54 million units in 2011 and 154 million units in 2013. This growth is likely to be at the expense of sales for netbooks, gaming devices and e-books.
