iPad News: Apple Ramps Up Production, Adds Plant

The iPad is one of the most-wanted gifts this Christmas, and Apple is ready to meet the demand. Apple’s manufacturing partner Foxconn has added more production plants in China, which are projected to turn out close to 10,000 iPads per day. But how long will the original iPad be produced before being supplanted by the next generation iPad? Most estimates expect the “old” iPad to remain in production at least through the end of 2010 and into early 2011. According to Digitimes, “iPad 2 is expected to launch by the end of the first quarter of 2011 with Foxconn Precision Component and Foxlink all becoming component suppliers. Meanwhile, Chimei Innolux (CMI), which is also related to the Foxconn Group, is expected to supply panels for iPad 2.” This pretty much agrees with the reports we’ve heard previously, that the new iPad will debut in March/April. Will holiday buyers be put off by the fact that there will be a newer iPad coming so soon? Given the number of polls that put the iPad at the top of this year’s top Christmas gifts, probably not.
