iPad News: $399 iPad a Publicity Stunt for T.J. Maxx?

If you were planning to hit up every T.J. Maxx and Marshalls within 20 miles in hopes of scoring an iPad for $399, save your time and gas. The deal was short-lived and very few bargain iPads are left out there. According to Andrew Murphy, a research analyst with investment firm Piper Jaffray, the total number of $399 iPads available at the discount chain and its sister store Marshalls was about 80, and since T.J. Maxx is not an authorized Apple reseller, the retailer must have bought the tablets in bulk and sold them at a loss. Yeah, that’s what I said yesterday. Was the expenditure worth it? If it gets more customers into their stores on Black Friday, heck yeah. If you’re a bargain hunter still in the market for a discounted iPad, the Apple online store still has refurbished models for $50 off the list price with free shipping.
