I am not exactly a genius when it comes to technology and am a little overwhelmed by all the jailbreaking information. I do want to go ahead with the process, however. Is it very hard to do?
It may sound difficult and complex, but jailbreaking your iPad is not that difficult to accomplish. To jailbreak the iPad, you can use something called the Spirit jailbreak application. Here on iPad.net we have a video detailing the process. It is quite simple to do as long as you know how to read directions. Just make sure that as the application is downloading that you do not interrupt the process at all. I know it's hard to put your iPad down but go make a sandwich or something until the download is completed. I have heard the term Cydia thrown around in jailbreak circles. What is it? Cydia is actually one of the reasons why someone would jailbreak an iPad in the first place. In part one of this series we discussed that you could access third party apps on the iPad once you completed the jailbreak process. Cydia is your hub for tons of third party apps that do not work on a “clean” iPad. When you jailbreak it, you will see a Cydia icon that is your gateway to downloading your new and uncovered apps to the iPad. Will all of the Cydia apps work with the iPad after the jailbreak? Unfortunately, some Cydia apps will not work with the iPad and could case you to go through the restore process. You will want to do a bit of research on Cydia apps and see which ones are accepted and touted by other users as compatible with the iPad. You don't want to be a guinea pig and try every app imaginable. I took a look at the Spirit jailbreak information and it lists one of the features as being an “untethered jailbreak.” What does this mean? An untethered jailbreak is an advantage, as it means that you will not have to have your iPad connected to your computer to boot it up. A tethered jailbreak, on the other hand, does require the devices to be connected for a boot to occur. The untethered variety gives you more convenience. Hopefully this series gave you some more insight to the jailbreaking game. Keep it here for more iPad Hack info in the future.
