iPad Hacks: Attaching a Bluetooth Mouse using BTStack

If you’ve already got a Bluetooth mouse then I wouldn’t bother buying another one. After all, there’s a good chance you won’t be using it that often. However, if you do want to splash out, the best one to go for is the Apple mouse, with its variable speed options and swappable buttons. Ready to get your mouse working? Here’s how: • First off you’ll need to download BTStack Mouse via Cydia. This is a free app and is easy to find. The utility was initially developed for the iPhone but works equally well on the iPad; • Switch on your Bluetooth mouse; • Run the BTStack Mouse app by touching the mouse icon on the iPad home screen; • A window will be displayed indicating that the app is searching for your mouse; • If you’ve using an Apple mouse, this will be listed by name on the search screen. Other mice are listed by their own names; simply click on the name of the mouse you’re using; • Once you’ve done this, you’re set to go. If you’re using an Apple mouse, you’ll need to go to Settings to configure the mouse’s speed and buttons. If you want to use BTStack to connect a Bluetooth keyboard you’ll need to download BTStack Keyboard which is not free, setting you back $5. This is a really simple and straightforward process. It’s not really about by-passing the iPad touch screen facility: why would anyone want to do that? It’s about most other possibilities that open up with a hacked iPad; it’s about giving you the choice.
