Heard of the ‘Play For Good’ initiative? Well PlayMob have, and teamed up with Fat Bob Games to launch an iOS game called Drop Catcher. From December 20th to January 20th, the game will be given away free on the AppStore, where extra paid content will have 50% of its earnings will go to SpecialEffect, the videogame-related charity that provides aid to the disabled.

Dr Mick Donegan from the charity organization said that some people who don’t play games find it hard understanding the value and importance of their work, but gamers help balance it out and are ‘eager to help’.

Andy Patne Chair of UKIE (UK Interactive Entertainment) said ‘This is exactly the sort of joined up creative thinking that the UK is so good at’, nothing the combination of three technology companies digitally shows what is possible when people come together and share ideas; “Gamers can now play and do some good by helping others. It really is a win-win.”

It’s good to see such generosity, but what can be done next? I want to see something bigger and more efficient than extra-content sales in the next few years, or if this proves to be successful, a bigger corporation like Rockstar incorporating the same idea during a time frame for DLC in a game.

Might even help the company’s reputation.
