Playing the game is easy. Winning at it is very difficult! For anyone who hasn’t played Mahjong before, a number of tiles are stacked in various patterns on the board. As matching tile pairs are exposed they can be removed, revealing those underneath. There are a couple of catches: you may only remove tiles that are ‘open’, which means free on one side. The other catch involved something called ‘wind direction’, and especially comes into play in ‘Windstorm’ mode. There are loads of different tile options to play with, 40 in fact, and with over 200 board settings you’ll have a lot of scope for change. The graphics are delightful with the tile designs drawn expertly. In addition to the inbuilt backgrounds, you may also choose one from your photo album, making the background possibilities virtually endless. Windstorm mode adds some extra fun. Normal play mode allows you to remove tiles when they are ‘open’ on the east or west side (left or right). In windstorm, a ‘prevailing wind’ factor comes into play, so the option to remove is further complicated to include north or south. The prevailing wind changes throughout the game. This keeps you on your toes! There’s a cute present to be earned if you complete a game, in the form of a fortune cookie! Find out your lucky numbers or get a peak into at your future wealth… For a game costing a buck, this is a game that’ll keep you hooked for months and years to come. Give up your social life, forget your family, lay aside your career ambitions, and buy yourself an electronic addiction. Just kidding!
