iPad Games: The Best iPad Games for Free: Big Mountain Snowboarding Lite HD

This is a realistic snowboarding game, and as far as I know, it’s the only one available so far on the iPad. The latest release has been optimised for iPad use, although it’ll still play on the iPhone. It gives you increased distance views and interesting, complex topography. This ‘Lite’ version gives you one complete trail from the full version. The most obvious objective is to get from the top of the mountain to the bottom in one piece. Along your downhill, you slalom between the gates to gain points. However, the real fun comes with in air stunts and grabs, which really start to rocket your score. Playing Big Mountain Snowboarding is easy, using the familiar ‘tilting’ technique utilised by car racing games. Stunts are achieved through screen touching alongside these tilts. As with many of iPad’s free game offerings, the graphics and audio are not first class. The animation is decent enough, with satisfying powder flurries after a slalom or stunt move; the audio gives you a pretty generic soundtrack as you race downhill. I find the huge onscreen digits used for scores unnecessarily large. The graphics could be more refined although the animation is fluid. In all, this is a good free game. I wouldn’t pay for the full version, simply because for me the novelty will wear off before long. Maybe I’m not the target market, because there’d be a major crisis in our house if the boys thought I’d taken Big Mountain Snowboarding off our iPad!
