iPad Games: Geometry Wars Touch is a real heart pounder

‘Geometry Wars’ was first released on Xbox Live Arcade and became a huge success. Its second release, Retro Evolved 2, became the most frequently downloaded game ever. The iPad version builds on the second release and utilizes onscreen joysticks that will really keep your thumbs busy. The game includes the six modes found on Retro Evolved 2 and introduces a new one just for the iPad: Titans. The black background allows the dazzling colors to jump right out of the iPad HD screen. The graphics are clean and the animation smooth and super-fast. I cannot stress how hard your heart’s going to thump when you play this game… it is a TOTAL adrenaline rush! You will literally have an arcade in your hands, and the relentless stream of enemies soaring across the screen will keep you breathless. The action in this game is just crazy! Not only is the screen action totally mad, the sound will keep you right there in the action. The controls take a bit of getting used to. You have virtual joypads left and right. These follow your thumb or finger movements seamlessly and will reset themselves to your current position if you accidentally remove your thumbs from them. Essentially the left joypad steers your ship and the right joypad operates all the firing and blowing things up. Watch out when you’re launching bombs – you might end up being blown up yourself! It is a knack you need to pick up, but once you have it, it becomes totally instinctual and you’re away. There is only a one-player mode. That’s a shame, as a hybrid multiplayer would really make full use of iPad’s connectivity. This is not the cheapest game in the app store but it’s an absolute must if you like retro style arcade games. As you might have guessed, I love this game, and I’m sure it’ll keep my heart racing for months to come.
