iPad Games: Carnivores Dinosaur Hunter for iPad in Jurassic Paradise

There are 2 gaming modes in Carnivores Dinosaur Hunter for iPad: hunt and survival. In hunt mode you select from 15 different dinosaurs the ones you wish to hunt. Each dinosaur has its own description so you know what you’re going to be faced with. Select your weapons plus other gadgets such as binoculars or a scent-concealer and it’s off to the island to pursue the greatest of great game.

The sounds in this app are fantastic. They truly conjure up an atmosphere of the prehistoric, with a host of random insect sounds and animal calls. The first you may know about the appearance of your quarry may be its roar from off-screen. An icon will tell you from which direction the animal is calling so you can find it before it finds you. Shooting the dinosaurs is not as easy as you would think: accuracy is key. It is especially difficult to down a dinosaur if its charging towards you, so get your aim right or you’ll be dino’s next lunch! Successfully killing your dinosaur will trigger the option to have the carcass airlifted and joined to your trophy collection. If you’re really having difficulty with your accuracy you can always adjust the control sensitivity, but for my money it’s worth persevering. That way it’s a so much more satisfying when you actually bag the beast.

Survival mode is as its name suggests. Carnivores Dinosaur Hunter pits you against an unlimited number of nasties, the object being to floor as many of them as you can before you’re eaten. Again this is great fun and good for honing your shooting skills. The best gaming mode though is as hunter.

I love this game. It is well made, entertaining, addictive and requires skill: all the features necessary in a first person shooter. For the money, you’re getting a lot of game.
