EA returning to iOS with The Sims: FreePlay

The Sims: FreePlay, as you may have already guessed from its title, will be a completely free to download and play title for iOS due for release later this month.

EA will generate income from the title through in app purchases (want that new dress for your Sim, $0.50 please). Hrmm, why does my Sim want a dress?

This iteration of the Sims is a 'little' different, with the real-time gameplay mechanic building on the back of EA's Sims for Facebook. Your Sim will live in a persistent online world that uses a real-time clock.

With your Sim living a regular old 24 hour day you can check up on him or her at any time, assign new tasks, buy new items and all other forms of Sim goodness.

Now, given that at some point your Sim will need to sleep, you will be able to play up to 16 different Sim characters so you'll always have a Sim to boss about.

If you have never played a Sims title before, or even heard what the games premise is about (unlikely), you get to control a virtual person. In Sims: Freeplay, as with all other Sims titles, you can:

Purchase new furniture for your Sim house (in app purchase);
Customise your characters clothing (in app purchase);
Throw parties for your Sim friends or other peoples Sims and;
Buy gifts for other Sims to form better relationships (in app purchases).

You should have the point by now, EA want you to live your life through you Sim, buy them stuff, and give EA more money.

Will I play it? No. Will EA still make a lot of money from the Sims: Freeplay? Most likely.
