Facebook Games on iPad Forget it! You’ll have to wait until you get home for your next dose of Vampire Wars I’m afraid as it won’t run on the iPad. This is one of the many victims of Apple’s ongoing feud with Adobe over Adobe’s Flash player. All of the Facebook games are written in Flash. No Flash = no play. Microsoft Word You cannot download Microsoft Word onto your iPad, even though it is available on Mac. In its place, Apple has included Pages and Numbers as Microsoft Office style replacements. These are very user friendly and are adaptive to both landscape and portrait layouts. The virtual keyboard will do a very good job for editing, but your fingertips will get sore after typing a long document so you may need to ‘dock up’ or Blue Tooth into a manual keyboard. Video Messaging This is a real guff. Here we have the iPad, great piece of high spec kit, lovely large HD screen, handheld device, even an option to “Take Photo”… with no built in camera! Come on, Apple, that must be a joke? A simple inbuilt cam would make such a difference to Instant Messaging and VoIP. Printing This is a tricky one. As it stands the iPad has no in-built facility enabling you to print. However, there are some apps available to get you printing, including a piece of Freeware called PrinterShare. A couple more popular apps for printing include PrintCentral for iPad and Print n Share. There is, of course, a very simple, straightforward, albeit low quality solution to the iPad print problem… use your company’s photocopier!
