More Syncing Problems Your poor little iPad gets easily confused when it’s syncing. I’m sure it’s got as much to do with its wobbly connectivity as it has with the process of syncing. Theoretically your iPad should be able to sync appointments and events from your desktop apps like Outlook Express or Thunderbird. Unfortunately the process is a bit ‘hit and miss’, and errors can slip in. When errors start to occur, however, the whole process seems to get flooded with errors, like the glitch floodgate has opened. To fix this you will need to reset your sync history, as follows: in iTunes choose ‘Edit’, ‘Preferences’, ‘Device History’, ‘Reset Sync History’. This should fix it all and you can have another go. Reconnecting to the network after sleep I find this amazing and a little spooky. I must admit I’ve never actually needed to try this myself, so I only have in on hearsay, but it’s reliable hearsay… A common problem with WiFi connections have been that the connection is lost when your iPad goes into sleep mode and then is unable to reconnect when it is woken up. Solution? Turn up the screen brightness! I’m not kidding. Several people have told me that it actually works… Is this where the iPad functions in the Twilight Zone? Apple solution to WiFi Problems Apple has announced that it intends to release a piece of free software to fix all the WiFi problems that have plague the iPad since its release. There doesn’t seem to be any sense of urgency, however, as no time scale or release date has been announced. So I’m guessing they’ll get round to it… eventually. An Outing to the Park There are some real problems with the iPad’s screen. The first thing is its highly polished exterior, which makes it a very effective sunlight reflector so not great for reading outside or in direct sunlight. Screen contrast is also not variable enough to cope with a bright summer’s day outside. Seeing any images on the screen when you’re in the park or at the beach is hard work. Having said that, although the iPad boasts an automatic brightness control, the screen can be too glary in a dimly lit room. How do you fix these brightness problems? When you’re inside you can adjust the brightness manually. When you’re in the park you may have to sit under a tree…
