The iWork app sounds great, but I have been using Microsoft Office for a while now. Will it open my Office files? One great aspect of the iWork app is its compatibility. Yes, it will open all of your Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files and let you edit them just as if you were using the Office programs themselves. What type of file formats are supported by Pages? Pages supports a variety of common file formats. You can import Microsoft Word documents from the Office 97 version and beyond as well as documents from Pages for the Mac '09 edition. You can export PDF files, Office 97 and beyond files, and files from Pages '09 for the Mac. Thanks for the clarification on the Pages' supported file formats, but how do I open these files in program? You're welcome; anytime I can help makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Importing files from the aforementioned formats can be done in three different ways:
  • You can do it via iTunes File Sharing and transfer the file or files from your PC or Mac. In iTunes you will want to be in the My Documents view and then select the Import button.
  • Get connected via the internet and go to your email on the iPad. If you received the file you want to import as an attachment, select the attachment to preview it, and then select the Open In option.
  • Get connected to the internet and preview the document on the iWork.com website. Once you are previewing the file, select the Open In option and it will open up in the Pages program.
Will I be able to print my documents that I created in iWork from my iPad? At this time, you won't be able to print from the iPad. What you can do, however, is share the file with your PC or Mac, and then print from that computer. I just finished an important iWork document and need to get it in my colleague's possession. How do I share it with them? There are three ways to share your files with others. All three options are accessible via the My Documents screen. Go to the center of whatever file you intend to share and look to the bottom of the screen. Tap the sharing icon. From there, select one of the options you want to use to share the file: Export, Share via iWork.com, or Send via Mail. Stay tuned for part 2 of this FAQ, where we will tackle iWork's Numbers program.
