Before the iPad came out, I bought some e-books from other stores that offered them. Can I transfer those to my iPad?
Due to DRM protection, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to view your other e-books with the iBooks app. The iBooks app on the iPad offers electronic books that use Apple's DRM protection, so the chances of compatibility are extremely low. It should work if the e-book in question is not DRM protected, however. With some luck, the online store where you purchased your e-book might develop an app to make it compatible with iBooks and the iPad in the future. I am a book junkie and I plan on adding tons of books to my iBooks shelf. I don't want to spend too much time finding the book I am looking for when I am ready to read. How will I be able to sift through my book collection? The iBooks app is set up nicely so that you won't have to spend all day searching for the book you want. In the app's list view you can see all of your books according to their title, category, or the author's name. You also have the option of viewing them in the same order that you have them placed on your virtual bookshelf. I tend to be a bit of a night owl and like to read books on my iPad late at night. The problem is that my spouse goes to bed earlier than I do, and might complain about the brightness emanating from my iPad's display. Is there a way to tweak the display while reading so it won't annoy others at night? It's nice to know that you are so thoughtful, and yes, you can adjust your iPad's display to make it more sleep-friendly for others at night. To do this, you will want to convert the display to what is known as the “White on Black” option. This option will basically invert the colors of your iPad. Go into Settings>General>Accessibility. Look for the White on Black option, and toggle it On. With this option enabled, your iBooks will have a black background and white text, eliminating most of the brightness. Not only does this prevent eye strain for you, but it also eliminates excessive light that could annoy others. If you do not want to go through the same process every time to enable the White on Black option, you can make it a shortcut for quicker access. Simply click on the home button three times to do this. That concludes this FAQ on the iBooks app. Hopefully some of these answers will help you take advantage of this great reading feature on the iPad.
