Ó

I have an iPad and I also bought one for my wife. We have similar tastes and want to read the same book simultaneously on each iPad. Will we have two buy two separate copies of the book?
Not necessarily. You can bypass this if you share an iTunes account. Just purchase the book once, and you should be able to download it to both iPads without an extra cost. I am a big fan of audiobooks because they let me sit back, relax, and enjoy a book without the extra mental effort or eye strain. Is there anything like this on the iPad? Actually, there is a feature called VoiceOver that will actually read the book to you aloud. Think of it as your personal bedtime storyteller. The feature might be considered to cater more towards the visually impaired, but you can also use it for yourself if you just want to relax and enjoy your book with ease. Keep in mind that this feature will not work with certain books, so your mileage may vary. When I want to call it a night and stop reading, will iBooks save my spot? Yes, wherever you left off will be saved so that the next time you access the book you can continue reading. One thing I like about actual paperback books is that I can write notes in them. I can also highlight or paste post-it notes on important pages. How will I do this with the iPad? Adding tons of post-its, handwritten notes, and highlights in a paperback can get messy and sloppy. With the iPad, you can have the same functionality but much neater. You can actually highlight important text and add “virtual post-its” to pages when needed. Even better, you have your choice of different color highlights in case you want to color code your marks. You can choose between yellow, green, pink, blue, and purple. It even looks like the real thing, and it definitely makes iBooks a good tool for students and those doing research. Rather than having to go page by page and looking for your highlights, you can see them all in one spot and jump to them as necessary. I have an ePub book that I did not buy from iTunes. Will it work in iBooks on my iPad? Yes, you can view DRM-free ePub books on your iPad, even if you did not purchase or download them from iTunes directly. You can transfer them to your iPad via iTunes. Just find the Books tab, drag your ePub files in, and sync them to the iPad. You should be good to go. Stay tuned for part 3, where we will wrap up the iBooks FAQ.
