iPad FAQ: How to Multitask with the iPad iOS4.2. Part 1

I am talking about the Multitasking feature. If you own or have used an iPhone 4 you would probably know that it had multitasking feature out of the box. The iPad lacked it, but with iOS 4.2 it’s now there with a few more cool features. In this two part series, we will be focusing on four major aspects of multitasking on your iPad. These are: 1) Multitasking basics for the iPad 2) How do you use Multitask? 3) Controlling Brightness, Playback, Volume and Screen Rotation. 4) How to close applications which are running in the background. Let’s start with the first topic. Multitasking basics for the iPad:

The main screen, known as the Home Screen, is where all the applications installed on your iPad appear. You can swipe between different home screens to see all your applications. There is a dock at the bottom of your Home Screen which holds 6 applications. This dock always stays in its place regardless of which home screen you are on. There is a physical button on the front of the iPad. This is the home button and is used to exit applications. However, in iOS 4.2 it is used to switch between different applications. You can multitask on the iPad by double tapping the Home button. Doing so shifts the home screen upwards making room for a row of applications. These are the ones which are currently running on your iPad. It’s time to get started. How do you multitask?

1) If you really want to get into the groove of multitasking then first open and close several different applications. Once you have opened/closed around 5-6 applications then press on the Home button twice. 2) Once you do this, the screen moves up giving space for a row of icons. This is the list of applications running in the background and will be exactly those last 5-6 applications. 3) Tapping on any icon will open the applications. 4) You can also tap the home button twice again to switch between applications. Keep tapping the home button twice and you will shift between of the applications you had opened. Tapping on the home button once will close the row of icons and you can stay on the application. So now you know the basics of multitasking. Part 2 will deal with additional cool features of multitasking.
