First of all you need to know that these steps are only possible on a Mac. You will also need to download upto 4.5 GB on your computer.

Start off by downloading Xcode 3 from the Mac Store for $5.00. If you want to get it for free then download it from the Apple’s Developer site or from the OS X install disc which comes with every Mac.
Once you have downloaded and installed it you need to follow a set of instructions which will finally get you to the Xcode home screen.
Next, plug in your iPad to your Mac and you will hopefully see a ‘Use for Development’ button on the Xcode software.
On clicking it, you should then be able to see a pop up which indicates that your iPad has been recognised. If it doesn’t appear then you can select it from under Devices which is listed on the left hand side of the Xcode software. You need to select your iPad from Devices.
You will be prompted to enter a developer account and password. You can simply click on cancel (or otherwise pay $99 which I doubt you would want to).
That’s it! You need to then unplug your iPad. In the Setting.app on the iPad you need to go and enable the settings for multi-touch gestures.

You will be then able to use cool multi-touch gestures to multitask on your iPad. These gestures give an insight into future iDevices which could potentially come without any external hardware buttons. But for now you can enjoy this feature (especially on the bigger screen of the iPad).
