Before we start, you need to make sure of some things: 1)      The latest version of iTunes must be installed on your computer. 2)      You need to make sure that the port on your computer from which you connect to the iPad is USB 2.0. 3)      The latest version of iOS must also be installed in your iPad. You can do that by connecting your iPad and checking in iTunes. 4)      Before troubleshooting can start you should have sufficient battery in your iPad, so make sure to charge for at least 20 minutes before starting. Scenario 1: What to do if your iPad won’t switch on or if the display stops responding to your touch?

  1. You should try switching off and on the iPad again. To switch off, press and hold the sleep/wake button. After a few seconds a red slider appears which must be slid. Once it switches off, the iPad can be switched on again by holding the sleep/wake button. The apple logo should appear and it should boot up. Test if everything is back to normal.
  2. If that doesn’t sort it out then you could try a reset. To do this, the sleep/wake button must be pressed and held for at least 10 seconds after which the apple logo will appear.
Scenario 2: What to do if your iPad does not appear in iTunes or you cannot sync it with iTunes?

  1. Try connecting the iPad to another USB 2.0 port on your computer by removing all other USB devices connected to it. Make sure not to connect it to the USB port on your keyboard since it will not provide enough power to power on the iPad.
  2. You can try switching the iPad on and off again in the same way mentioned in the first scenario. This may help sorting the issue out.
  3. Try restarting your computer and then connect the iPad again.
  4. Of course, the latest version of iTunes must be installed, even if you do, try reinstalling iTunes.
For the next set of scenarios please stay tune for part 2 of the basic troubleshooting guide.
