Video over 3G, there's an update for that

A bit of a storm whipped up when iPad 3G owners realized they couldn’t stream high quality video over 3G wireless. Further, much of what was available was decidedly low-res and now there’s more of that on the way. On Friday when iPad 3G owners attempted to watch their favorite programs with ABC Player over 3G, they were greeted by a perhaps predictable message, “Please connect to a Wi-Fi network to use this application. Cellular networks are not supported at this time.” Well, an updated version of ABC Player was submitted to Apple and is now available (iTunes, free) on the App Store and tacitly says it supports “3G streaming (requires 3G connection)” as a feature. In addition to reduced quality ABC programming, iPad 3G users can also view low-res YouTube videos. One imagines that any other video apps which are currently prevented from streaming over 3G will require an update in order to deliver reduced quality content.
