It is basically a method of sorting and linking your different ideas together, quite similar to the leaves of a tree. You first start out with the main idea or goal (main node). Then you go about thinking about various sub-ideas (nodes) within the main idea. This is how the single idea branches out into various smaller ideas as you further develop these individual ideas better. Mind-Mapping can be really useful and effective for someone who uses it as a focusing tool. If you are an iPad user who already uses mind-mapping to sort out your ideas or wants to try it out then the MindNode app will be perfect for you. Created by Markus Muller, MindNode allows you to mind map using your iPad. Through a simple ‘tap and type’ method you can easily create your own mind map. Start off at the main node and then tap the + button to get subsidiary modes. You can also drag on any mode or its subsidiaries to move to any part of the tree. The sensitivity for the touch screen of the iPad with this app is brilliant.

The big graphical representation on the iPad’s screen can make it clear to sketch out ideas. You can also view the mind map as a text outline. This can be done by tapping on the outline button on the upper right corner. You also get the option of pinch to zoom to see specific areas of the mind map if you want to. Deleting nodes is also quite easy. Just tap on the node you want to delete and then tap on the trash icon. Another great feature is that MindNode can work with a desktop app on your Mac. You can transfer your mind maps between your Mac and iPad. This can be done using a wireless Wi-Fi transfer mode. The settings for this feature can be found under the sync settings. Apart from wireless transfer you can also copy and paste your mind map into dropbox in various different formats such as text, image etc. Using video output support on your iPad you can also view your mind maps on a larger external display monitor.

Overall, MindNode is a useful app for people who use Mind Mapping as a method for solving problems or generating ideas.
