iPad App Reviews: Tellmewhere For a Night Out With Friends

One of the defining features of Tellmewhere is its intelligent database. As you discover more places you like, and complete the app’s review for that place, so it hones its suggestions to you next time based on your tastes. That’s pretty neat. As it utilizes geo-location technology it’ll give you search results based on where you are at any given time. This is great if you happen to be in New York City or Paris, France, but less good if you’re in a small town in Maine… the bigger the city, the more bars and restaurants are going to in the database. The other great feature of this app is the social networking. You can stay in touch using messages, chat and get push notifications. Actually I’m not sure if it’s social networking or stalking, as it will bring up the location of your friends if they are also online and within your vicinity. I think the idea is not to spy on them, rather to arrange a get together at a mutually convenient spot. You can all check out nearby places then decide where to hang out for the rest of the evening. If you’re unsure how to get to the meet, Tellmewhere will supply you with directions. Tellmewhere is a fun little app, although limited in scope to major cities only. I love the idea of pinpointing your friends and meeting up together in a new bar or restaurant. This app would be particularly good if you’re away at a seminar or conference with a bunch of business colleagues. You’ll be able to keep in touch, not get lost, and find some great places to hang out.
