When many of us lived in the same neighborhood for years, we knew who our neighbors were—for better or worse. We also knew who to keep our kids away from. Now, families are more mobile, relocating often due to job changes or family situations. When you move to a new area, you’re rightfully concerned about the safety of your children and which of your neighbors might present a threat to them. Offender Locator lets residents of the United States search the areas near their homes for registered sex offenders, and see their photos and what offenses they’ve committed in the past. This app compiles data from registered offender databases in all 50 states, and is updated daily. I’m sure some civil libertarians will say this is unfair to the offenders, but as long as you don’t go over to their homes with torches and pitchforks, citizens have the right to examine facts that are open to the public. The lite version lets you check out up to ten offenders, while the full version gives unlimited access for $1.99. Download at the Apps Store.
