iPad App Reviews: IMDb on iPad Still No Improvement

IMDb is the digital oracle for anyone even remotely interested in movies. Literally everything you need to know about the movie industry is right there at your fingertips. There is also an iPhone version of IMDb but the iPad version is much more user friendly. Apart from the obvious advantage of the larger HD screen, this app has even more information crowbarred into it. Besides, I’m a little underwhelmed when I watch a movie trailer on a tiny cell phone screen. Almost all of the desktop features associated with the full IMDb website appear on this app, alongside a much simpler mode of navigation. At the bottom of the iPad screen is a bar allowing you a swift return to home screen, browsing, movies showing times, TV guides, actor information, alongside the IMDb top and bottom 250 movies. Choose a film title and follow all the links to bring up an in-depth synopsis, character notes, actor biographies, movie clips and stills. Over 1.5 million movie titles are listed alongside a whopping 3.2 million movie-people including actors, actresses, writers and directors. That’s a pretty impressive database by anyone’s standards. There is, however, a bizarre and cavernous omission. There is no facility to log on to your own personal IMDb account. The most important outcome of this is an inability to rate movies that you’ve seen. I want to go to the movies, go for a beer afterwards, dissect what I’ve seen with my friends and then post up a rating on IMDb. Why can’t I do this with this iPad version?
