FileMaker design and host business-level professional databases on behalf of its customers, enabling desktop and mobile users access to its servers. With this as its background structure, they’ve created a mobile version of FileMaker especially for iPad that looks and works exactly like its desktop counterpoint, apart from certain database update restrictions. From the desktop end, users can update the entire database if they wish and transfer it via the servers to iPad users in the field. Unfortunately wjole-database traffic is only one way via the servers. However, modifications by your field team can be made via email updates or directly through WiFi or 3G connectivity. If there's no access to the internet or the FileMaker servers in the field, any changes to databases can be synced with your desktop back at the office. Entire databases can be emailed or even shared via an internet browser - there are so many ways to keep in touch with your team! Databases are fully searchable as they are on the desktop version, meaning that the depth of information held on the server is available on the road. There is a slight problem with certain script recognitions. This may either cause you a lot of problems or none at all depending on your personal set up. It’s worth checking compatibility with FileMaker before buying this app to make sure. The other problem is the transfer of larger PDF files, which for some reason FileMaker Go For iPad doesn’t like and won’t accept. Apart from these nuisances, as a business app FileMaker Go For iPad is an essential tool and well worth the investment. FileMaker Go For iPad is available for $39.99 from iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/app/id=379690325#
