If you already have Dive Buddy Pro for iPhone you can transfer all your diving records from there straight onto this iPad version. The easiest way to use this app is by taking your iPad with you to the dive site. The GPS locates your position so you simply need to move the cursor over to the actual dive location to start inputting your record. On the original version there was the facility to input manually your longitude and latitude coordinates; this has now been disabled as the app will do this for you automatically. Once you’ve set up your specific page entry you can start entering all the dive details.

Dive Buddy Pro works supports the Nitrox Calculator and will automatically determine your best blend for any given scuba dive. As an app designed for the international market, units are in metric as well as imperial. Other recorded information can include kit taken down, for example knife or torch. Photography taken on your dive can be displayed on the dive page, to a maximum of 4. According to the developers this limitation is purely a matter of conserving valuable memory space on the iPad.

There are limitations with Dive Buddy Pro. The main one is its inability to search for a direct location via name only. This is no hindrance if you’re using the app as an on-going record of dives but it’s time consuming to log former dives, especially if you’ve got a great bunch of them. Lack of functionality on this front seems simply due to memory conservation again, as there is only a finite amount available on the iPad as a mobile device.

To keep a thorough and exhaustive log of all your diving data, Dive Buddy pro for iPad has to be the best on the market.
