iPad App Reviews: Brushes Could Be the Best Artist Tool on iPad

This app is so versatile. You can produce staggering postmodern images of vibrant color or moody monochrome, or paint equally impressive realistic works with a near oil-paint finish. What began as a feature-filled iPad app has come of age when it fell into the hands of professional artists. Several covers of the New Yorker has been created using Brushes on the iPad. Recently US artist David Kassan came into the media spotlight after comedian Stephen Fry noticed his iPad work and Tweeted about it. Kassan, who lives in Brooklyn, is frequently seen in Manhattan’s Washington Square Park using Brushes on his iPad to sketch members of the public. Kassan confirms that the improved functionality on Brushes have totally transformed this app: “This seems to be more about sculpting the painting and it gives the artist more of a feel for the subject matter and composition,” he told British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, “The larger screen obviously helps. The options for colour correction and control are far improved from the iPhone”. Brushes for iPad gives you up to 6 layers of painting using a choice of 19 quality brushes. You can reorder, merge and change transparency of layers. Importing and transforming photos is easy with the ability to rescale. For detailed work you can zoom from 50% to 3200%. There are several ways to save and export your work in progress or finished pieces including the facility to export directly to flickr. This is a magnificent app for visual artists of all levels.
