For families who enjoy camping with their children this app is a must. It’s best to remember to take a solar charger with you if you find yourself in a beautiful wilderness, though: Army First Aid is useless if your iPad battery has run out. Our two boys are always getting into scrapes when we’re living under canvas, and a decent first aid app is great in sorting things out. It’s also a great distractor – it’s amazing how an insect bite is less painful if your son or daughter is searching for a remedy on your iPad! Obviously this app is directed towards soldiers so some of the eventualities listed are unlikely on a weekend fishing trip. For example, I hope I’ll never have to use the information about injuries following a chemical attack… Army First Aid is well presented, easy to use and is full of interesting and useful information. Instructions are clear and accompanied by excellent illustrations. Like the other apps in this military series, it’s worth buying for a good read as much as anything else. There are, however, some straightforward reasons why this app may not be as good value as may first appear. If you’re not planning a trip into the outdoors and away from any 3G or WiFi connectivity, the most obvious thing to do when encountering an injury is simply to look up what to do on the internet, for free. Military-style first aid information is available via a single Google search. That said, my personal view is that Army First Aid is interesting enough to warrant a purchase in its own right, regardless of whether the basic information is freely available elsewhere. Army First Aid is available for $1.99 from iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/army-first-aid/id326842780?mt=8#
