The biggest difference between the older LogMeIn and the newer versions is the presence of new file sharing capabilities. To start off, by using this app’s free client you can access all your computers on your iPad easily by entering a username and password common to your iPad and computer. In the new updated version you can easily copy and move files between a computer and your iPad or vice versa by navigating between File Managers on different computers similar to how you navigate between different open pages on the Safari browser. For example, files can be easily moved between two Windows boxes and the iPad. Also, several different file formats can be opened in LogMeIn such as .PDF’s, .RTF’s etc. Once you open these files you can then open them in other applications such as GoodReader. Even if you are not able to open a file on your iPad using LogMeIn you can still copy and move them between computers. Because LogMeIn caches files you do not have to copy them to your iPad to be able to open them. You can discard the cache if you don’t need it. Navigating through LogMeIn’s file manager may take some time to get used to though. However, some files will not get copied on the iPad. This could be either because the contents of the file will not fit in your iPad or because the type of file prevents this (e.g. C drive on Windows does not get copied). Other enhancements in this update include support for AirPrint. You can also wake up a computer from sleep using Wake on LAN. On supported computers you can also wake up computers from when they are powered off. This feature must be enabled in the bios of the computer on Windows. For Mac, you have to go to the options tab and in the Energy saver you need to enable the option for this (remember that you Mac must be on Ethernet for it to work). LogMeIn is definitely the best choice if you want to remotely connect and gain access of your computer on your iPad. With the recent updates including the awesome remote file access and control from the iPad it is definitely a good buy even though it costs a hefty $29.99 in the App store.
