iPad App Review: Keep Memories on File with MaxJournal

Keeping a journal on paper has its consequences. Since journals usually contain a person's deepest secrets and thoughts, it is usually not something they want divulged to others. We've all seen those movies or television shows where the protagonist has their journal found. We've also seen the embarrassment or drama that follows such an occurrence. With MaxJournal, however, you can be protected. As it exists on your iPad, your MaxJournal is protected by a password. Only the person who knows that password (just you hopefully) can unlock it to read it and edit it. If you happen to forget the password, MaxJournal will give you a hint to help you remember it. This privacy protection alone makes MaxJournal better than an actual diary.
Privacy aside, MaxJournal is loaded with features that make keeping a journal not only easy, but fun as well. Despite being a virtual or electronic application, MaxJournal actually looks like a real-life journal. It features tabs on the side of the page for different dates, much like a book that you can flip through. You can also select from a wide variety of attractive font styles that look like real handwriting. When you combine this with the iPad's great display, you have one attractive app on your hands. You can also use it in either landscape or portrait mode, depending on your preferences. There are also some added technical features to help you out as you put your thoughts down, such as a spell check and autosave.

One advantage of using MaxJournal's electronic capabilities is organization. You can timestamp your entries if you happen to post multiple times each day. Jumping around to different entries and accessing them is quite simple too. You can view a calendar and tap on the date to view its entries, or you can perform a keyword search if you want to see entries where you had a specific topic on your mind. If you wanted to do this with a paper diary you could spend all day searching for what you want. To add a little flair to the whole operation, you can even add up to three photos to an entry. Imagine going back in time, being able to access a specific topic or date in your life, and being able to see photos that correspond to it. Can a regular diary provide that? Not likely. When you are done, you can either keep your entries as-is, or you can export them to others via text, email, or PDF. At only $2.99, MaxJournal is a steal. You would pay that much for a paper journal at the least, and it would be without all the great features or security that MaxJournal has to offer.
