iPad Accessory Review: TrendyDigital PadShield Element Protection Case

There really is not much to the PadShield. To the casual eye, it looks like a plastic pouch. In essence, that is pretty much what it is. The PadShield's design consists of two basic elements: the case itself and its openings. The case is transparent, allowing you to place the iPad inside for protection but still be able to view its display. You can also interact with the iPad's touch-screen. Let's be honest, if you could not, the case would be semi-worthless. There is an opening at the top and one at the bottom. Each is secured by Velcro strips. The top opening is intended for when you want to move the iPad in or out of the case. The bottom allows for an opening should you want to connect the iPad and charge it. It's suggested that you have both ends of the case opened when you remove the iPad, so that you can push it from the bottom without trying to yank it out. This prevents any scratching of the display. Inside the case is some padding so that the back of the iPad has a cushion when inside. The padding is useful against any sudden bumps or drops. When the iPad is inside the case, it is not an extreme fit. Instead, there is some breathing room. Still, it does manage to stay put and not stray on its own, allowing you to use the device efficiently.

While the protective padding and cushion on the inside is great, the real star and purpose of the case is how it protects against the elements. It can protect the iPad against liquid splashes, dust, and dirt. Notice I said splashes. This does not mean you can drop the iPad in a pool and the case will protect it. It is not waterproof, as the water when fully immersed can sneak in through the top or bottom. If you are going to sit next to a pool, however, and your buddy does a cannonball, you will be protected against any water that splashes onto the case. Should you go to the beach, the case would help you if its windy and sand starts flying everywhere. Other places where the case would be useful could be hospitals, construction sites, or maybe even your kitchen while cooking. TrendyDigital's PadShield is not for everyone, but it definitely has its niche. If you want to take the iPad outdoors or use it in messy environments, the PadShield can come up big. At just $19.99, it's a small price to pay for extra iPad protection.
