iPad Accessory Review: Apple Wireless Keyboard

In terms of its looks, the Wireless Keyboard is similar to the Keyboard Dock. Where it has it beat, however is its wireless capability. The Wireless Keyboard uses Bluetooth technology, allowing you to pair it with your iPad. Once enabled, you can use the keyboard wherever you like, as long as it is within the wireless range of the iPad. This is great for when you want to prop the iPad up on a table nearby, and lay down as you type on the couch or your bed for extra comfort. It also provides a clean setup for you to work, without any messy wires. Unlike the Keyboard Dock, the Wireless Keyboard gives you many more options for working, as you wont have to rest a dock and iPad setup on your lap or be constrained to a desk or table. The Wireless Keyboard's frame is composed of anodized aluminum. It is very lightweight, yet solid enough to handle everyday wear and tear. The Wireless Keyboard is full-sized, yet portable. In fact, it's 24 percent smaller than most standard keyboards. Do not worry, though, its chiclet-style keys are spacious and easy to type on. They are also incredibly responsive. As an added bonus that is iPad-centric, you get an extra row of dedicated controls that work with various functions of the device, such as volume control, brightness adjustment, other media controls, and more.

About the only problem you might have with the Wireless Keyboard is that you might like it so much, that other keyboards will pale in comparison. If you have a Mac computer that is enabled with Bluetooth, the Wireless Keyboard will work with that as well, giving Apple fans flexibility and multi-faceted use with more than one device. To run the Wireless Keyboard, all you need are two AA batteries. To start off, Apple provides you with these batteries right out of the box. The batteries should last you plenty of time as well, and are helped by the keyboard's power management system. If you do not touch the keyboard or use it, it will power off automatically to save energy. Once it senses touch, however, it comes back on. The Apple Wireless Keyboard is not inexpensive at $69. If you want all the accessibility it provides, though, it is worth its price.
