iPad Accessories: How to get 3G on your WiFi only iPad. Go Novatel MiFi.

With your laptop the solution was easy. Just take your 3G USB stick and wang it into your device. Happy surfing. You can’t do this with your iPad because it doesn’t have a USB port. So what to do? You’ve got a couple of options. One is to Jailbreak your iPad (found out how elsewhere on iPad.net) and tether up to a smartphone. The other option is to go MiFi. There is a device available for taking a 3G signal and converting it to WiFi. Novatel Wireless makes it and its called MiFi. It is a FANTASTIC piece of kit. Novatel boasts that their “MiFi® delivers the ultimate in personal freedom. With the simple push of a button, wirelessly access the Internet from virtually anywhere with any WiFi-enabled device”. That’s pretty neat. It also delivers the following features: Connects up to 5 WiFi devices simultaneously: This is great if you're out with your friends who are also ‘WiFi only’. You can all do your own thing or multiplay games if your game doesn’t support Blue Tooth. GPS enabled: Another coup against the iPad 3G owners who thought they had the monopoly of GPS. Ha! 30ft range: So you don’t have to sit on your friends’ laps to all use it. Secure internet connectivity: No snooping from internet stalkers. Small and lightweight: This device is smaller than a deck of cards so will fit easily into any bag or case. Long battery life: A single charge will last up to 4 hours (on a single WiFi connection) and recharging is an easy plug-in job. Now the snag: Novatel’s MiFi isn’t cheap. Retailing at around $200 that’s a hefty price to pay for enjoying extra connectivity. Perhaps this would be an item best bought by a household with a number of WiFi only iPads. At $200 a throw, you may just be tempted to sell your WiFi only iPad and buy a new 3G version instead.
