Going loggerheads with Amazon over the pricing issue, there is head to head competition between Apple and Amazon as the former have kept the same prices of the bestsellers available on iBooks as that provided by the latter. Moreover with the availability of Project Gutenberg, Apple can now directly import 30,000 books for free. The gone week saw the blowing of the lid off the pricing of books and magazine’s on the iPad, by Wall Street Journal. Again a leak enabled the tabloid to get a peak into the book pricing issue. Thus was found that Kindle from Amazon would be providing the bestsellers at a price of $9.99 whereas 30,000 classic titles would be made available for free, through the store. On the other hand, the preview of iBooks revealed that the pricing of the New York Times bestsellers had been kept at $9.99 matching with that of Amazon. The price is slated to be effectual for 27 of the 32 bestsellers that include titles like The Help, Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang, Missing, The Silent Sea and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. $12.99 is the highest price that has been quoted for a title from Macmillan. Another post from AppAdvice revealed the Apple’s access to the Project Gutenberg library which enables them to import more than 30,000 books directly to the iTunes. This would enable the Apple’s users to access these titles directly and more easily through the store despite the fact that the iPad could anyway access them through ePub titles. The matching bestseller pricing of $9.99 between Amazon and Apple has brought the former’s ebook store and the latter’s iTunes book store at odds. On the other hand, Amazon’s kindle is directly in contention with Apple’s iPad. Although the Kindle has the ability to provide the ePub format through which the Project Gutenberg can be accessed, the users would not find the downloading process as easy as accessing the books directly from the Amazon store.
