So you have gone and bought yourself a new iPad 2. This is your first iPad (or in some cases your first Apple device). While using the iPad 2 may not be rocket science, to be able to extract full functionality out of the iPad 2 you may require some assistance. So for your guidance today iPad.net brings you tips and tricks which are hidden beneath the surface to help you use your iPad 2 better. Many of the tips are common with the original iPad and have been mentioned before on iPad.net. However, these will be useful for both iPad original and iPad 2 owners. Before we start off, you may have noticed that your iPad 2 did not come with a printed user manual. Don’t worry, Apple did not forget to pack it in your box but instead this is how Apple does business. If you want to read the manual you need to download the manual off Apple’s website. Additionally, if you have iBooks installed you can download it and read it on your iPad 2. Also if you are interested you can watch the guided tours which Apple provides on their website for each of the apps preinstalled on your iPad 2. Let’s get on with the Tips and Tricks then:
  • Using the Side Switch:
There is a switch on the side of the iPad 2 which will allow you to perform either of the two functions mentioned next. You can choose to use it to enable or disable audio alerts (doesn’t affect audio/video playback though) or else use it as orientation lock switch (prevents switching between landscape and portrait mode and stays at the orientation you locked the iPad 2 in). To change these settings you need to go to Settings> then General> then the Use Side Switch tab. You can select from either of the two functions mentioned above.
  • Multitasking:
This may not be anything new if you already have used an iPhone/original iPad/iPod touch, but if you are new then listen up. By double tapping on the home button, you can see a list of running applications on your iPad 2. A multitasking bar appears which will show you the icons of these apps. You can press and hold on to any of the icons till they start jiggling. Then tap on the ‘x’ mark to close the ones you want to close. If you swipe the multitasking bar left to right you will see additional shortcuts. You have playback controls, shortcut to iTunes, brightness settings as well as volume control. Also based on what functionality you have given to your side switch, the other one (not chosen) will appear on the bar so that you can use that as well. Stay tuned to iPad.net for more parts of this series to learn about other cool tips and tricks on your iPad 2.
