iPad 2 News: Some Apple Stores Opening Early Tuesday for iPad 2 Sales

At least some of the disappointed shoppers who stood in line for hours on Friday hoping to score an iPad 2 might get lucky tomorrow. Several sources are reporting that some Apple Stores will be getting new shipments today and tomorrow, and will be opening at 9 a.m. on Tuesday to accommodate the rush of customers. Not all stores will be opening early, so call your local outlet for information on hours and availability before getting in another long line. Some stores are rumored to be receiving new stock today but will not be selling the iPad 2 again until Tuesday. Supplies rapidly ran dry after the iPad 2 went on sale at 5 p.m. Friday afternoon, and it appears that no new stock has shipped over the weekend. While it’s obvious that the demand for the iPad 2 outstripped the initial supply by a long margin, we still don’t know exactly how many units were available and how many were sold. Estimates by analysts vary greatly, going from a modest 500,000 to an overwhelming 1,000,000. Apple has made so statement so far except to say, “demand for the next generation iPad 2 has been amazing.”

Not only are stores carrying the iPad 2 sold out, the wait for online orders from Apple is currently 3-4 weeks. When the original iPad went on sale in April of 2010, Apple did not catch up on shipping orders for four months. Let’s hope it doesn’t take them that long this time around.
